Vincent Price: The Prince of Horror

Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. was born in San Luis, Missouri. This marvelous actor is known mostly by his horror movies and his constant participation in films adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's stories. He began his horror movies career on 1953 with the original script of House of Wax along with Yvonne de Carlo (who played the character of Lilly in the famous serie The Munsters). His taste for the macabre and his desire to play particular and non-conventional characters made him love and appreciate Edgar Allan Poe's short stories and poems; which he considered to be satires of human nature and society. He acted in the majority of Poe's adaptations such as The Fall of the House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), Tales of Terror (1962), The Raven (1963) and The Masque of Red Death (1964). However, Vincent Price was a versatile actor and artist. He was involved in great melodramas such as Serenade (1956) and his one and only Broadway musical Darling of the Day (1968). During the following years, he stopped his acting career to dedicate himself to give his voice to animated films and narrations. One of the most famous works of Price as a narrator is Tim Burton's first short film, Vincent, which is named in his honor and shows the story of a boy who wanted to be Vincent Price. Even his last work as Johnny Depp's father in Edward Scissorhands was famous, although shorter than expected. He died on October 25, 1993 by lung cancer.
Vincent Price will always be present in the memories of those who had the pleasure to live and acknowledge his outstanding job and his talent to scare people during his films. His works as a narrator will remain a treasure of his voice for all those who, admire this marvelous actor and artist.
